The history of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture at Guangxi University can be traced back to the civil engineering preparatory course at the university's founding in 1928. In 1932, the Department of Civil Engineering was established, making it the first engineering department of Guangxi University. In 1997, it was reorganized into a college. In the same year, the discipline of Structural Engineering was selected as a national key construction discipline under Project 211. In 2002, it was selected as a national key discipline (one of only seven nationwide). In 2017 and 2022, the Civil Engineering discipline was selected into the first and second rounds of the world-class discipline construction list, respectively. In 2018, as a leading discipline, it was selected into the Ministry of Education's ministry-region co-constructed first-class discipline group. The School has a complete system of undergraduate, master's, doctoral, postdoctoral, and adult education. It has a postdoctoral mobile station in Civil Engineering, first-level doctoral programs in Civil Engineering and Hydraulic Engineering, and a first-level master's program in Architecture. It offers four undergraduate majors: Civil Engineering, Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering, Architecture, and Intelligent Construction. It has 3 national-level platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Featured Metal Materials and Structural Engineering for Life-Cycle Safety (jointly built by the province and the Ministry), the Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Life-Cycle Safety and Durability of Major Civil Engineering Structures in the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Civil Engineering and Architecture, as well as 11 provincial and ministerial-level platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Engineering Disaster Prevention and Structural Safety of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Key Technologies of Long-Span Arch Bridges, and the Guangxi Engineering Research Center for Water Security and Intelligent Regulation in Karst Areas. The College currently has 210 faculty and staff members, including 169 full-time teachers, 43 with senior professional titles and 64 with associate senior professional titles; 96 doctoral supervisors, including 1 full-time academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 14 national-level talents, and 22 provincial and ministerial-level talents. At present, there are 1,832 undergraduates, 1,338 master's students, and 251 doctoral students.
