On May 31, 2024, Guangxi University successfully hosted the China-ASEAN Civil Engineering International Cooperation and Exchange Conference. Five renowned Southeast Asian experts and scholars in civil engineering were invited to participate, including Professor Bing Li from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Professor Suchart Limkatanyu from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand; Associate Professor Sutat Leelataviwat from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand; Associate Professor Chayanon Hansapinyo from Chiang Mai University, Thailand; and Dr. Vu Ngoc Son from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Vietnam.
Professor Xiao Jianzhuang, a member of the university’s Party Standing Committee and Vice President, delivered the opening remarks. He extended a warm welcome to the experts and scholars and emphasized that the conference marks a new milestone in Guangxi University’s development. He expressed the university’s commitment to fostering comprehensive, multi-level, and wide-ranging educational and research collaborations with ASEAN countries to support the construction of “Double First-Class” disciplines and achieve high-quality development.
During the conference, the participating experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as Guangxi University’s role in supporting the development of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, international research collaboration in the field of civil engineering between China and ASEAN, and cultivating international talent tailored to ASEAN needs. They also explored joint efforts in international talent training programs (including postgraduate programs for ASEAN students), research collaboration, talent recruitment, and academic exchanges, laying a solid foundation for deepening inter-university cooperation.
Representatives from the Development Planning Office, Academic Affairs Office, Research Office, Graduate School, Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, School of Resources, Environment and Materials, School of Computer and Electronics and Information, and School of Marine Sciences also attended the conference.
