In his speech, Professor Xiao Jianzhang welcomed the faculty and students from ASEAN universities on behalf of the university, and introduced the university’s development status and internationalization strategy. He emphasized that Guangxi University attaches great importance to exchanges and interactions with ASEAN universities, and expressed hope that this summer camp would further strengthen cooperation with Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Suratthani Rajabhat University, and other ASEAN institutions. He also encouraged participants to engage actively in learning and communication during the camp, to experience the vitality of China’s infrastructure development, and to appreciate the profound heritage of Chinese culture, thereby enhancing understanding and deepening friendship.
At the opening ceremony, Nurulizyan Jahari, representing the participants from Universiti Teknologi Brunei, and Yata Liengruksa, representing the international students of the School of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Guangxi University, delivered speeches expressing their anticipation for the summer camp and their hope to broaden professional horizons and strengthen cross-cultural communication through this opportunity.
The summer camp offered a rich and diverse program, including academic seminars, field visits, and cultural experiences. Professor Chen Zheng and Associate Professor Gao Yuan of Guangxi University delivered academic lectures on topics such as arch bridge construction and climate change. During the camp, participants visited campus facilities including the Large-Scale Structural Testing Platform for Civil Engineering, the Marine Science and Education Center, the University History Museum, the Herbarium, and Quanxue Island, gaining insight into the university’s profound historical and cultural accumulation as well as its advanced technological platforms. Participants also explored landmark buildings in the center of Nanning city to gain an in-depth understanding of urban infrastructure development, and experienced Guangxi’s traditional folk customs and Lingnan architecture firsthand. They engaged in immersive activities such as Chinese calligraphy, traditional sports, and performances of colored opera and musical theater, experiencing the unique charm of Chinese culture.
The summer camp was hosted by Guangxi University, organized by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the School of Civil and Architectural Engineering, and co-organized by the Secretariat of ISO/TC 71/SC 9 and its domestic technical counterparts. Relevant officials from the Student Affairs Office, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and the School of Civil and Architectural Engineering attended the opening ceremony.
