Recently, our university's postgraduate general education course, "Lifecycle Safety of Major Civil Engineering Projects of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor: Theory and Practice," led by Professor Han Linhai, has been successfully implemented.
This course is tailored to meet the development needs of major civil engineering projects of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. It focuses on the fundamental theories and key construction technologies related to the lifecycle safety and durability of large and complex engineering structures. The course is designed based on the research foundations and strengths of experts and the university's collaborative teaching teams, as well as the latest research frontiers and advancements. It is taught through a series of special topics by Professor Han Linhai and Professor Chen Zheng from our university, Professor Jiann-Wen Woody Ju from the University of California, Los Angeles, Visiting Professor Li Chao from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Yongchang Wang from the University of Manchester, Professor Kang Hai Tan from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and Professor Dennis Lam from the University of Bradford in the UK.
The instructors, leveraging their years of research and work experience, presented the engineering backgrounds, scientific issues, key technologies and methodologies, major engineering practices they have been involved in, and their significant achievements in their respective fields. They also provided insights into future industry trends. A total of 720 postgraduate students participated in the course, and there were ample discussions and exchanges between the students and the experts during the class.
The introduction of this course is one of the initiatives to enhance the internationalization level of our university's civil engineering postgraduate education and the discipline's international influence. It is reported that another postgraduate general education course, "Introduction to Engineering Construction Standardization," will be offered in the fall semester of 2024.
