The exchange and cooperation meeting between School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Guangxi University (GXU) and Faculty of Engineering of Universiti Technologi Brunei (UTB) was held on November 28, 2024, in the First Meeting Room of Junwu Hall, Guangxi University. The meeting adopted a hybrid format, combining online and offline participation.
In attendance were Dr. Mohamad Hazwan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Yulfian Aminanda, Dean of the School of Design; Dr. Lim Pang Jen, Program Leader of Civil Engineering; Dr. Rozia binti Hj Adenan, Program Leader of Architecture; Gong Weihua, Deputy Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Guangxi University; Prof.Ma Shaokun, Deputy Dean of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture; Prof. Yang Haifeng, Deputy Dean of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture; Li Xin, Director of the Architecture and Planning Department; Chen Yunting, Deputy Director of the Architecture and Planning Department; Zhou Jin'e, Director of the Graduate Office of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture; and Wei Hong, Deputy Director of the Communication and International Cooperation Division of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
During the meeting, Deputy Dean Ma Shaokun provided an overview of the School's international exchange activities and reviewed the foundationof previous collaborations between GXU and UTB. He highlighted that in recent years, the School has strengthened international talent cultivation by establishing scholarships for civil engineering students from ASEAN countries and countries along “Belt and Road” Initiative, as well as initiating postgraduate programs for international students from ASEAN countries. The School has also been approved to join the "China-Foreign High Level University Students Exchange Program" by China Center for International People to People Exchange and has established cooperative relationships with leading universities such as the University of New South Wales, UTB, and Suratthani Rajabhat University. Faculty members have engaged in close academic collaborations with internationally renowned scholars from institutions like Imperial College London, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the National University of Singapore, forming innovative international teams. Additionally, our college has actively hosted and organized international academic conferences, promoted international standardization in technology, developed industry standards, and contributed to global construction efforts.
Dr. Mohamad Hazwan, Deputy Dean of UTB's Faculty of Engineering, gave a detailed introduction to the Faculty's student international internship programs, collaborations with universities in Japan and South Korea, and the organization of International Engineering Technology Conferences in Brunei. Following their presentations, both parties discussed specific areas of cooperation, including exchange student programs, recruitment of international students, faculty exchanges, collaborative research, and co-organizing international conferences.
In conclusion, Deputy Dean Ma Shaokun summarized the meeting, expressing the School’s commitment to further deepening international exchanges and cooperation. He expressed hope for building more high-quality platforms with UTB's Faculty of Engineering in teaching and research to promote talent development and faculty growth, thereby advancing the construction of world-class disciplines.
