The Civil Engineering major has been selected as a first-class major in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" of the Ministry of Education, and has been awarded the first batch of national first-class major construction points. It is a major that has been evaluated (certified) by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development and certified in engineering education, one of the first high-quality majors in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and an advantageous characteristic major in higher education institutions in Guangxi. The major originated from the Civil Engineering Preparatory Program at the founding of Guangxi University in 1928. With a long history of education and strong faculty, it currently has one full-time academician, one Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, one Changjiang Scholar Lecture Professor, two national talents, more than 20 doctoral supervisors, and more than 50 postgraduate supervisors. This major relies on the world-class discipline construction of civil engineering, the national key discipline of structural engineering, the national key construction discipline of civil engineering and the development of water resources in the Hongshui River Basin, the national experimental teaching demonstration center of civil engineering and construction, the postdoctoral mobile station of civil engineering, the doctoral program of the first level discipline of civil engineering, the key laboratory of engineering disaster prevention and structural safety of the Ministry of Education, the key laboratory of disaster prevention and reduction and engineering safety in Guangxi, and the talent highland in Guangxi to cultivate high-level talents in civil engineering. A complete "undergraduate -- postgraduate -- doctoral -- postdoctoral" talent training system has been established. There is an experimental class for cultivating innovative talents in civil engineering and water conservancy, aimed at cultivating high-level research-oriented talents. The course is taught separately, focusing on mathematics and mechanics foundations, implementing a mentorship system, and allowing students to apply for graduate school in their third year of university in advance.

Graduates in the field of road and bridge engineering can engage in surveying, design, supervision, construction, management, teaching, and scientific research in transportation departments, municipal departments, schools, and research institutions.
